| treść: Wieś Melsztyn koło Zakliczyna nie istnieje - na szczęście tylko urzędowo. Sprawa wyszła na jaw, gdy Ministerstwo Spraw Wewnętrznych i Administracji - w związku z przygotowywaną elektroniczną ewidencją miejscowości - poprosiło Urząd Gminy w Zakliczynie o weryfikację danych. Przeciętnemu zjadaczowi chleba Melsztyn może się kojarzyć z ruinami zamku, wybudowanego w średniowieczu przez Spicymira Leliwitę, albo z historią dwóch skłóconych pustelników, którzy na miejsce odosobnienia wybrali zbocze góry, na której ów zamek Spytko wybudował. Co do tego, że Melsztyn istnieje, nie może być najmniejszych wątpliwości. Nie ma natomiast Melsztyna w aktualnym wykazie MSWiA. Do początku lat 80. był częścią wsi Charzewice. Potem postanowiono wyodrębnić go jako samodzielne sołectwo. Wytyczono więc granice nowej wsi i wybrano sołtysa. Odpowiednie dokumenty przesłano do Tarnowa, gdzie prawdopodobnie utknęły. Oznacza to, że przez ostatnie ćwierć wieku Melsztyn - jako wieś - był... nielegalny. Mieszkańcy Melsztyna muszą raz jeszcze wyrazić swoją wolę przynależności do sołectwa, złożyć wniosek do Rady Gminy Zakliczyn, a ta - po konsultacji ze starostą powiatu tarnowskiego - musi podjąć stosowną uchwałę.
